Apprentices Sophie Laidlaw and Hamish Carrol won the Rising Star and Apprentice Endeavour awards respectively. And Tharsus was named runner up in the Manufacturing Matters category which recognises extraordinary resilience in the face of Covid.

Commenting on her Rising Star award, which recognises initiative in apprentice learning, Sophie said:

“To have won a national award for my work in my first year and a half of my apprenticeship is something I would never had expected. The support and opportunities Tharsus have given me has been paramount to my achievement and I want to thank everyone I have worked with over the last year for their support.”

The Endeavour award recognises achievement in the face of adversity and commenting on his deserving win, Hamish said:

“I’m proud to have been named National Winner for the Apprentice Endeavour Award, at the Make UK awards. This award is a great personal achievement, as it recognises me as a hard-working and dedicated apprentice engaging with my apprenticeship despite the adversities I have faced during my time with Tharsus!”

Make UK Awards Crest Winner

The Manufacturing Matters business category recognises companies or collaborations that have demonstrated exceptional adaptability and resilience to impact their business and improve lives and society.

For 2020, unsurprisingly, the judges were looking for businesses who demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of the threats and challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular those who had adapted operations and supported their colleagues and customers using their skills, innovation, technologies, and engineering expertise.

They felt that Bump, the powerful social distancing system developed by our team to directly address Covid’s challenge did exactly that. It is helping our business and many others stay safely operational throughout Covid-19.

Congratulations to the winners of the category, Gripple.
