Tharsus welcomes work experience students from Bede Academy
This week we have had some special visitors coming through our doors. We’ve had four Year 11 students at GCSE level coming from Bede Academy in Blyth, who are all very interested in our apprenticeship and graduate opportunities here at Tharsus. They are currently studying electrical and civil engineering and are looking to join either our apprentice or graduate schemes in the future.
We organised a few jam-packed days spending time with our apprentices and engineering teams, both at Tharsus and our sister company, Universal Wolf.
Hamish Carroll – who has recently won Rising Star in the Apprenticeship Category at the Make UK awards – is showing them around our facilities and answering any questions they may have on what it’s like to be an apprentice here.
One of our design engineers, Alex Cleminson, designed a project for them in which they’ll be designing and building a line LCD tester. They’ll also be producing engineering resources to help young children get excited by engineering too.
We’re hoping the experience of being part of the North East Company of the Year will inspire and encourage them to carry on with their engineering passion!
We think it is very important to invest thought, time and resources into the bright young minds of the North East, and we want to provide the opportunity for future engineers and designers to reach their future potential. We are aiming to do this through our school outreach programme and various other schemes to get young people excited by engineering – just like we are!
