International Trade Secretary Liz Truss visits Tharsus
On Friday we welcomed International Trade Secretary Liz Truss to Tharsus.
Her visit was one of a number across the region in which she spoke to businesses about the future for exporters post Brexit. And it is bright. Commenting during a tour of Tharsus new £3million facility, Ms Truss said:
“Britain leads the world in high-tech – we just had great figures this week which said investment in tech has grown faster in Britain than any other country in the world.
“We are literally the world leader for increases in investment into country for technology and it’s fantastic to see this great example here in Blyth.”
She went on to say that Brexit would broaden rather than narrow the pool of potential customers for businesses like Tharsus.
“One of the big opportunities from Brexit is the fact we are able to reach around the world, to be more open to the rest of the world.
“That’s a big opportunity for businesses here in the North East”
The visit was also attended by local MPs including the newly elected Conservative MP for Blyth Valley – its first since 1950 – Ian Levy.
